Who knew recording a CD could make history? But for the Signature Symphony at 91¶¶Òõ March 9 will be a monumental event as the orchestra will record its first CD in its 35 year history.
“This has been a dream of mine to have the Signature Symphony at 91¶¶Òõ record a CD,â€ said Dr. Barry Epperley, Signature Symphony artistic director and conductor. “We’ve talked about the CD for years and now we are going to make it happen.â€
The CD recording will take place during a special live performance at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. The CD, titled “Signature Sound will capture the diversity of the Signature Symphony with selections ranging from “Amazing Grace and “Without a Song to “Bolero. A number of the selections included in the CD concert will be arrangements by Larry Dalton, who for more than 25 years, served as the Signature Symphony’s resident arranger/composer before his death in 2009.
“Over the years, thousands of Tulsans have attended the Signature Symphony performances and supported the performing arts in the area,â€ said 91¶¶Òõ Dean of Performing Arts Kelly Clark. “This is your chance to be part of history as the Signature Symphony sound is recorded. Signature Symphony wanted to record the CD as a tribute to Epperley who will retire at the end of this performance season.â€
Tickets are $10 for the performance and CD recording session, which will take place at the 91¶¶Òõ Southeast Campus VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education (PACE) at 81st and highway 169.
Tickets can be purchased at the 91¶¶Òõ Southeast Campus VanTrease PACE ticket office or by calling (918) 595-7777. No children under the age of five will be allowed inside the theatre. Information on how to purchase a CD will be released at a later time.
